Lofoten is short on kilometres and long on distractions. Most people see it in a rush from one parking lot to the next. This route is built the other way round. Short driving days leave time to walk, wait for the light, and sleep somewhere quiet.

It starts where most road trips here start: rolling off the ferry at Moskenes. The first nights are at the southern tip around Å and Reine. The route then works north-east along the E10 through Flakstad and Vestvågøy to Henningsvær and Svolvær, and crosses into Vesterålen to finish at Andenes.

The guide is written for driving, not for reading on the sofa. Each day has its own chapter: the stops in order, the kilometres between them, where to park, the day's real problem, and what to do if it rains.

Questions

Do I need to book the Bodø–Moskenes ferry?

In summer the car ferry fills up, and part of the capacity can be reserved in advance. The guide explains when booking is worth it and what to do if you arrive without a reservation.

Is a week enough for Lofoten?

A week covers Lofoten and a taste of Vesterålen at an unhurried pace. The guide marks which days to stretch if you have more time and what to drop if the weather turns — stay put a night and cut the Vesterålen days.

Can I do this route in May or September?

Yes. The route works from May to September; the guide notes what changes outside July and August, from ferry timetables and road traffic to daylight and museum hours.
